About me

IMG_2776.HEIC

For the first time in 20 years, I have finally gotten the courage to write my thoughts and let people into the mind of Jamie Elise. I've won battles with depression, suicide, and terrible days but I still stand to tell the story. I hope to give other young girls who have been in similar situations or have feelings of unworthiness the hope that the grass is greener tomorrow. I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois surrounded by people who didn't look like me and the people who did bullied me and it severely damaged my self-esteem. I began to perm, dye, cut and put excessive heat on my hair to fit in and it still didn't make anyone like me any more or any less. it wasn't until I went to Kenwood Academy in Hyde Park when I realized my black was beautiful and i should embrace it, and that's where my natural hair journey began. I hope anyone reading this dealing with the same issues finds strength and motivation in these posts.

Forever Greatful,

Jamie Elise
