Bald Head Baddie or Slowly Cut of Damage?

The road to natural hair can be one of the most rejuvenating and honestly frustrating decisions you could make. Should you be daring and do the "Big Chop"? Would cutting the damage off work better? These are all things you should definitely consider before making your decision.

1. Why are you deciding to go natural?

Seriously, why do you want to go natural? Are you trying to catch the latest trend, are you tired of all of the high maintenance of creamy crack, or are you ready for a new look? Going natural can be a very grueling, time consuming task that you must commit to in order to achieve the results that you'd like. There is a common misconception that going natural is much cheaper than doing things like perms and such but, let me tell you, it could be the same and sometimes even more expensive. If you're considering letting your hair grow out and cutting the damage out, you must consider the time it takes to do that.

2. How much effort do you want to put into your hair?

After making the decision to go natural the next thing to ponder is how long you'd like the process to take. When you do the big chop it allows you to start completely from scratch with little to no maintenance. You may find when you cut your hair that you enjoy the way you look with a TWA (Teenie Weenie Afro) or maybe even a fade. If you decide to transition by letting your hair grow out, understand that it takes a bit more time and effort. It includes hair regimens and constantly getting your ends clipped. While you still get to enjoy your length, it may take a longer time. Again, it all depends on your personal preference. If you know you're not good at following a regimen than the big chop may be best for you. If your not ready to let go of your long tresses, transitioning is the way to go.

3. What are the psychological aspects of your decision?

Consider what's making you hesitant to cut your hair off. Now don't get me wrong, if you genuinely feel transitioning is the better option for you there's nothing wrong with that decision. But if you're on the fence, really sit down and ask yourself why? Are you concerned about how people will feel about you? Do you feel you can't be feminine with short hair? Always remember it's your hair so always put yourself first in the decision you make. While this can be easier said than done, it can be done. But also remember it's hair so it'll grow back no matter what decision you make. So live for you and be unapologetic in your decision.

4. Just do it!

Once you make your decision it's time to act. If you're ready to BC either do it yourself or find a barber. Do some research on the style you'd like so you have something to look forward to. Maybe add some color to your new look, doing so could help you keep track of your new growth. If you decide to transition instead, put yourself on a schedule for when you will trim your ends and look on YouTube for hair regimens that works for you. Find some protective styles that will ultimately help your hair grow faster. Finally, enjoy yourself. This is a time where you can learn more about yourself, not just your hair.

You can do this. You are strong, you are powerful, and you are able.

Love Always,

JamieElise
